HOW TO MEASURE FOR DRAPERY
Some things to note on measuring for drapery. It's not rocket science. You can do it! Grab a tape measure... We'll guide you.First determine rod placement:
HOW HIGH?
Your drapery rod should hang about 2" below the ceiling, or if your ceilings are really high you can choose to hang the rod about 12" from the top of the window trim, or 1/2 way from the trim to the ceiling. Remember that your drapery will hang from the rings and start below the rod, so take 2" off the rod height for your finished drapery panel length.
HOW WIDE?
Your drapery rod should extend 8-10" on each side of the window frame. So measure your window, outside trim to trim, and add 20".
This is so that your drapery will stack over wall rather than window. You want to let in all the light you can!
If your draperies will open from the center out to each side (2 panels), then your finished width per panel needs to be at least 1/2 the rod. If it will be just one panel stacked to one side, then the width will be the entire rod.
